Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide, sometimes called laughing gas, is a safe and effective method to provide relaxation during dental treatment. Nitrous oxide is a gaseous blend of oxygen and nitrous oxide delivered through a mask placed over the nose. The gas is mild, easily taken in and eliminated from the body, and is non-addictive. Usually, patients remain awake while inhaling the nitrous oxide but occasionally fall asleep. Breathing is carefully monitored throughout treatment.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation involves taking a relaxation medication approximately one hour before the procedure. The pediatric sedation dentist will provide pre-operative instructions, such as limiting food and drinks beforehand. And although your child will be awake throughout the procedure, they will be more relaxed. It is a safe, simple procedure performed by our dentists in Jackson, MI.
